Using the perfect tools and equipment is the base of any successful project, and fasteners are some of the most crucial bits of kit to get right. Using the right fasteners will affect almost every aspect of your project from its finish to its longevity and strength.
Often you won’t need anything out of the ordinary, but for some more specialised projects, it stands to reason that you might need a more specialist fastener. You might require something bigger or smaller than you can find in mainstream fastening outlets, or something that isn’t commonly used enough to be stocked in most hardware shops. If that’s the case, instead of compromising the quality of your project and making do with something that isn’t quite right, you should find yourself the exact specialist fasteners you need.
At Confast we can help you find exactly what you need. Whether you’re looking for a particular specialist fastener or you need something custom-made, we can sort it for you.
Specialist fasteners
Specialist fasteners are essentially any fasteners which are outside of the normal, most commonly used fasteners stocked in mainstream fastening outlets. Sometimes only one specific, specialist fastener will do the job, and at times like these you can rely on Confast.
We have a vast range of specialist fasteners and fixings for you to choose from, and we’re more than happy to help and advise on what to go for if you’re in any doubt.
The range of specialist fasteners available at Confast is huge, and includes:
Waxed Cones
Waxed cones are cones made of waxed cardboard, designed for use with holding down bolts when fixing steel or timber building frames into concrete or the ground. The waxed cones allow for easy adjustment of bolts whilst keeping concrete displacement to a minimum.
Nylon and Stainless Steel Castors
Castors are essentially wheels mounted on frames which can be attached to a whole host of things which need to be easily manoeuvrable, such as trolleys, movable shelving, office furniture, display units etc.
Castors are commonly made of nylon or stainless steel, or a combination of both, because of their resistance to corrosion and their durability. These properties make them ideal for use on medical equipment and in food preparation areas.
Pallet Feet
Pallet feet, as the name suggests, are used to attach to the bottom of pallets for easier and more secure stacking. They can be used indoors or outdoors as the hole in the centre paired with the rim around their edges make them ideal for letting rainwater run off without collecting and causing any damage.
Thunderbolts
Thunderbolts are self-tapping (meaning they cut their own indent into whatever they are being fastened to) and are extremely strong anchors. They are so tough and strong that they can be used on materials from wood all the way through to stone, brickwork and concrete.
Through Bolts
A through bolt is a bolt which goes straight through one or more layers of material and binds it securely to another. They are often used in projects involving concrete.
Through bolts form such firm bonds between materials because they actually expand as they are inserted. This happens as the friction from their application heats up the bolt, which causes it to expand and form a tight seal with whatever material it is inserted into.
Eye Bolts
An eye bolt, sometimes referred to as a ring bolt, is a bolt which has a metal ring or loop at the head end. This means that when the eye bolt is fastened, the ring or “eye” still protrudes above the surface. This eye then forms a secure anchor point for ropes or cables to be looped through.
Eye bolts are used extensively across several industries. They are indispensable as part of pulley systems, rigging, and hoisting as well as lots of other applications.
Sleeve Anchors
Sleeve anchors are predominantly used with masonry. They are extremely strong masonry anchors which expand as they are tightened. This expansion forms a strong bond with the masonry and helps to distribute pressure more evenly to avoid cracks and damage to the surrounding material.
Hexagon Connector Nuts
Hexagon connector nuts, also known as threaded rod connectors, coupling nuts, or stud connector nuts, are used to connect two bolts or screws together. They are great for giving a polished finish as well as a sturdy connection between two male components.
Galvanised Bolts
Galvanised bolts are bolts which are covered in a protective layer of zinc. This zinc layer protects the bolt from corrosion far better than normal zinc plating. This makes galvanised bolts the ideal choice for projects which might be exposed to chemicals or other corrosive substances.
Castle Nuts
Castle nuts are nuts which have notches cut out of them which make them resemble the towers and crenelations of a castle. Castle nuts are secured over bolts with the addition of a pin, which means it can’t be loosened or tightened, making it extra secure.
